Animated films are full of all kinds of characters, but how do creators actually invent them? And what do they pay attention to when designing a brand-new character? Animator Saber Aidarus, creator of @SaberOH!, known from TikTok, will tell you all about it and show you his own animations. Then you’ll get to know the tools about designing your own character: what kind of story does it belong in, and why does it look the way it does? Who knows, you might just invent the next Spiderman, Sonic or Spongebob after this workshop!
During this workshop participants will also watch and discuss with Saber a series of animated films curated by Cinekid: Hello Summer (2024), Enjoy Your Meal (2023), Battery Mommy (2024) and Lulina and the Moon (2023).
Saber Aidarus is a Somali creative from the Netherlands with experience in advertising on social media. He has worked for clients such as AFCON, Meta, JBL, and Albert Heijn. Additionally, he is a director, speaker, comedian, voice actor, and animator! Saber is currently working on a cartoon called “SaberOH!”. For this series, he creates original animated comedy sketches that he personally writes, draws, and voices. His inspiration stems from various cartoons from his childhood, real-life experiences, and his Somali roots.
This workshop is created in collaboration with Cinekid.
