👤 Artists & Animators of all levels looking to improve their creature animation skills.
Join Aaron Blaise, award-winning animator and creature expert, for an immersive 5-hour workshop on bringing four-legged animals to life in animation. This session is designed for artists and animators looking to deepen their understanding of anatomy, gesture, and locomation to create more fluid, believable movement in their work.
Part 1: Drawing & Understanding Quadruped Anatomy
The first half of the workshop will focus on understanding and drawing animal anatomy, breaking complex forms into sex key sections that help simplify structure and movement Aaron wil cover:
✅ Comparative Anatomy – How different species are built and how their skeletal structures influence movement;
✅ Breaking Down The Body – The six-section approach to drawing four-legged animals in motion.
✅ Gesture & Exaggeration – Capturing the spirit and personality of an animal while maintaining anatomical accuracy;
✅ Drawing from Imagination – Using knowledge of anatomy to create dynamic, believable poses.
Part 2: Bringing Animals to Life Through Animation
The second half will focus on animating locomotion, covering the essential mechanics behind how four-legged animals move. Topics will include:
🎞️ Walk, Trot, Run & Cycles – Understanding weight, rhythm, and timing for different speeds;
🎞️ Breaking Down Key Poses – The key frames that define a natural, fluid movement;
🎞️ Push & Follow-Through – How animals propel themselves forward and how different parts of the body respond;
🎞️ Animating Personality & Expression – How small details in movement communicate mood and intent.
Through live demonstrations, practical exercises, and animation breakdowns, you’ll gain essential tools to create dynamic, realistic, and expressive four-legged creatures in motion.
