Animation directors Bee Grandinetti and Kaho Yashida are both involved in Panimation, a multi-platform community of equality-driven women, trans and non-binary friends within the animation industry. They are trying to bring positive change to the industry. In this panel they talk about what next steps need to be taken, what kind of people and tools are needed? Feel free to contribute!
Bee Grandinetti is a Brazilian-born animation director, designer, illustrator, animator and educator. From Belo Horizonte to São Paulo, then London and finally Stockholm (where she’s currently based), she pursues the art of breathing life into 2D characters, which have grown warmer and more vibrant at each stop. Bee’s talent didn’t go unnoticed: she bagged the Best New Talent award at the 2016 Motion Awards and was whisked away by Google Creative Lab in London for their distinguished Google 5 program in 2017.
Besides creating engaging animation, Bee co-founded Panimation, an online community for women, trans, and non-binary individuals working with animation and motion. She also lends her expertise to multiple schools around the world, teaching, lecturing and working as an educational consultant. In every endeavor, Bee’s passion for animation and inclusivity shines brightly.
Kaho Yoshida is a director and animator, with a special passion for stop motion and mixed media. Her fresh aesthetics and sense of humour bring life to every frame, and her love for storytelling makes her work relatable and approachable. Raised in Tokyo, Kaho chose to move to a suburban town in Canada by herself at age 15. Struggling to adapt and failing to fit in, she found great joy in expressing herself through visual art, inspiring her to move to Vancouver to pursue an education in art. Her latest short film Tongue has screened at multiple festivals worldwide and was also part of our very first Saucy Selection film program.
