The industry has seen an increase in artists switching to traditional media, often exploring it for the first time, and many sectors are embracing this change. In this panel, ee are talking with Wouter Tulp, Iris Compiet and other artists about this development.
Iris is the epiphany of a creator of whimsical creatures. Mother of fairies, witches, elves and everything fantasy, Dutch artist Iris Compiet has distinguished herself in the fields of illustration and character design. She has collaborated with Netflix as well as worked for the Star Wars-, Labyrinth- and Dark Crystal Bestiaries. Her Kickstarter-funded art book: Faeries of the Faultlines has registered an impressive international success having been translated in several languages.
Dutch character designer Wouter Tulp has worked for studios such as Sony Pictures Animation, Paramount Pictures Animation, Netflix, Skydance and many more. And he loves to share what he has learned over the years and helps aspiring artists improve their craft.
The discussion is going to be moderated by longtime Playgrounds friend, creative consultant, art book designer and publisher Spiridon Giannakis. He has been working in print media since 2006. Starting in 2017 he has helped artists, like Even Mehl Amundsen, Abigail Larson, Bjorn Hurri, Bastien Deharme, and many more, to publish their art books managing their crowdfunding campaigns. His latest project is Convoloot, a platform entirely focused on conversations and interviews with industry professionals and community leaders.
