This collection of short films is sure to leave you inspired to go out and effect change yourself. Directors featured range from established artists taking the TAD stage to emerging talent.

BOOBS – HANNAH LAU-WALKER / NEXUS STUDIOS

Join the boobolution! Made by an all female team, this film playfully encourages women to recognise the importance of boob health.

 

GLOBAL WOMAN: CAREER LIMITING – ANNA MANTAZARIS

Released on International Women’s Day 2021, this stop-motion short was created for Global Women New Zealand. In the film, director Anna Mantazaris takes aim at the ‘Motherhood Penalty’, showing that there’s almost nothing a woman can do in the workplace that is more career-limiting than having a baby.

“Wear Wool, Not Fossil Fuel” aims to educate people about the hidden impact of synthetic fabrics on the environment based on the insight that every 25 minutes, an Olympic pool’s worth of crude oil is used to produce synthetic clothing.

 

THE HANDMADE GIFT – ANNA MANTZARIS

This film tells the story of a little girl who appears to be protecting her bear from the cold, but we soon learn that the situation is much more dangerous than we realised…

From morning commutes to late-night walks, women feel constant, subtle fear. In this short, every step is tense, under flickering streetlights highlighting their apprehension.

With expressive metaphors this brand video depicts how collectivity is related to sustainability, communality and the future.

Based on a true animal. This striking short lends its animal characters some human traits to highlight our shared skills**.** Director Conform Cox effectively highlights that ****we’re not so different after all. It works to break down human’s hierarchical ideas driving speciesism.

 

BROKEN WINGS – LUDOVICO EINAUDI & STUDIO BIRTHPLACE

Broken Wings is a unique documentary-music film as well as an awareness campaign that shines light on the underreported practice of bird poaching in Southeast Asia.

 

CORAL – FORMPLAY

A collaboration between Formplay and British composer, Oliver Davis to help launch his album ‘BLUE’. The film works to urgently remind of of the importance of the world’s reefs and why we need to preserve these fragile ecosystems.

 

CLARKII- LETICIA VAN NEERVEN

The American Crayfish was first spotted in the Netherlands in 1985, now the population has ballooned into the billions. The implications of this invasive species’ rapid proliferation range from endangering our flora and fauna to the structural integrity of our dykes.

This short film comments on the climate crisis with a seriously funny tone. A tragicomic, absurd fable that summarizes a complex side of humanity.
