We think we know, but do we really? Are artists really pouring their efforts into the places used by studios to scout talent?
Let’s find out in this industry panel hosted by Motion Hatch.
Hayley Akins will be joined by Coffee & TV‘s Steve Waugh, Buff Motion‘s Tom Allen and by Susie Joseph from Not to Scale.

Steve Waugh, Executive Creative Director at Coffee & TV, has over 20 years experience in design, direction and VFX, including two BAFTA nominations and an RTS Craft Award. A founding member, he shapes the studio’s creative strategy, guiding artists and a team of creative directors to reach their potential and driving Coffee & TV’s bold, innovative vision.
Tom Allen is Co-Founder and Executive Creative Director at Buff, a motion-first creative studio recognised for its brand-led, strategic motion that enhances brand experience. As a Certified B Corp, Buff is committed to meeting high standards of social and environmental performance, with an approach rooted in care for its people, its process and its craft.
Previously Susie Joseph was a Production Assistant and Scheduler at another animation company, where she sourced and coordinated freelance animators across a range of projects and briefs. Now at Not To Scale, she oversees the crewing process for pitches and identifies directors, animators and other creative talent to bring new ideas and briefs to life.
Motion Hatch is an online learning hub for freelance motion graphic designers and animators. We offer training materials, resources, a community forum and a bi-weekly podcast discussing the ins and outs of the business side of motion design. It was founded by Hayley Akins as a resource to help motion designers and animators get advice and support with the things that sometimes seem hard and boring – like knowing what to charge clients, how to protect your business with contracts and much more.
