British animator Joanna Quinn discovered animation while studying Graphic Design in Middlesex University in London. Her graduation film, Girls Night Out, introduced audiences to her iconic character Beryl and launched her career.
Joanna’s films explore themes of gender, politics and human eccentricities all made with great humour and beautifully drawn. As well as making short films Joanna and her company Beryl Productions have made over 100 commercials for the UK and US markets. The most well-known being the Charmin Bear.
Joanna has won four BAFTAs, three Emmys and received two Oscar nominations. She holds several Honorary Doctorates and is an Honorary Fellow at the Royal College of Art. Recently, she has been supporting women animators in Gaza and promoting films made by displaced children, leading the global initiative ‘To Gaza with Love’ that produced more than 300 films from over 50 countries.
At In Motion, Joanna will show the magic of animation right before your eyes by doing a live drawing while discussing her creative process. Prepare to see a character come to life in not more than 30 minutes.
