From politics to culture to business, Dutch studio thonik strikes a balance between adventurous concepts and pragmatic resolutions. Some identities are still working thirty years after they were made. Not because they were left untouched, and not because they were redesigned along the way, but because they were built to adapt.
This talk is about dynamic identities: systems where the core never changes, while everything around it is free to respond to type, to space, to medium. A logo does not have to survive a screen it was never drawn for. A system does. That is the difference between an identity that ages and one that lasts.
Motion plays a part in that. Not as an end product, but as a way of testing what a thing really is and what it can survive. thonik’s graphic designer Falco van Burg will talk about what belongs in that unchanging core, and how little it turns out to be.
