CD PROJEKT RED is a global video game development company aiming to create revolutionary role-playing games, with memorable stories, that inspire gamers. Established in 2002, they are headquartered in Warsaw with teams in Cracow and Wrocław — as well as Boston and Vancouver. As a global video game development company, it develops and publishes video games for PCs and video game consoles. The studio’s flagship titles include the futuristic RPG Cyberpunk 2077, its spy-thriller expansion Phantom Liberty, and The Witcher series of games, including The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and its two expansions. In collaboration with Studio Trigger, CD PROJEKT RED also created the award-winning Netflix anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, set in the same universe as the game. Other games developed by the studio include Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales and GWENT: The Witcher Card Game.
During The Art Department Berlin we will be joined by art director Pawel Mielniczuk and senior FX artist Mathieu Girard.
Pawel has joined the company in 2006 and has worked on all three installments of The Witcher series as well as the Hearts of Stone & Blood and Wine expansions for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and GWENT: The Witcher Card Game and Cyberpunk 077. During his part of the talk he will cover how world-building and art direction is approached in CDPR on the example of Dogtown from Cyberpunk2077: Phantom Liberty.
Mathieu joined the company in 2022 to work on Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. During this talk, he will explain how FX artists at CD Projekt Red remade the Blackwall visual effects for the game.
