How do second-generation Dutch people with a migration background see their native country? In this poetic documentary we see shared memories, expressed insecurities and unburdening conversations that show how being treated as the Other can be internalised. These experiences extracted out of interviews express the doubt whether one is allowed to feel at home in the Netherlands.
Director Michael Hauwert is interested in creating stories through animation. He directs short animation films which focus on the sensitive and psychological. He is enrolled in the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht program and received a Dutch Filmfonds Wildcard for Animation in 2024.
The film yet only here I am home will be featured in the Student Film Competition. The selection highlights not only amazing student films created by artists enrolled at Dutch universities, but also works that challenge and innovate in terms of audio-visual storytelling.
