Enjoy the sauciest selection of short films made by female and/or queer directors. The short film gems that blur the line between the erotic and the artistic into a mesmerising whirlwind of expression told from a female and/or queer perspective. Changing our gaze. Juicy content, quirky stories, visual pleasures but, most of all stories told from a fresh perspective.

This program is co-curated by Hannah Lau-Walker, animation director and founder of She Drew That.

! ATT: The film can depict mature content.

Shadow of Butterflies (d. Sofia El Khyari)
Morroco | 9 min | animation

In a mysterious forest, a woman is slowly lured into a daydream as she observes butterflies.

Tongue (d. Kaho Yoshida)
Canada, Japan | 2 min | animation

Tired of being talked at by men, a woman takes a sensual trip with unusual friends.

Lusthouse (d. Neeraja Raj)
South Korea | 10 min | fiction

Lighthouse keeper Da-hee’s solitary summer ignites when a devastatingly handsome young man washes ashore.

Futon (d. Yoriko Mizushiri)
Japan | 6 min | animation

Wrapped in the futon… Memories are coming up to the mind, the future is imagined, senses are recaptured, physical feelings as a woman are deeply ingrained…Everything melts pleasantly all together. In the futon, the body wonders seeking for these sense…

Izzy (d. Fleur Stiels)
NL | 4 min 50 sec | fiction

Izzy is constantly stuck in the same cycle: mocked, dismissed, ignored, forgotten. But a touch of red glitter? Now that’s a game-changer!

Path to Pleasure (d. Nicola Francis)
UK | 44 sec | animation

Nothing stifles pleasure like the pressure to achieve it. However, by managing lifestyle factors that impact intimacy, adjusting positions, or incorporating tools like lube, and more, we build a foundation from which pleasure can flow more freely. We are able to trade the energy of “achieving” for “allowing”. This shifts our habit of spectatoring during sex, to simply being present with pleasure!

The Eating of an Orange (d. May Kindred-Boothby)
UK, France | 7 min 29 sec | animation

Stark conformity dominates the residents of a large manor house. Identical figures eat the same, move the same, look the same. But everything changes when one woman gets given an orange by a strange figure. She has never seen an orange. In the exploration of this new and exciting discovery, she gets transported into another realm. In this forested world full of lichens and copulating slugs a sensuous fluidity opens up to her. But how can she balance this with the world she knows? She must make a choice: abandon her discovery, or step forwards into a new way of being.

Carrotica (d. Daniel Sterlin-Altman)
Germany | 11.30 min | animation

16-year-old Nadav is writing an explicit gay erotica and his mother Shari, a Fertility Botanist, is busy working and falling in love with a sexy carrot. Carrotica ambitiously tackles a triple narrative in 13 minutes: the sexual reawakening of a middle-aged single mother, the anxious adolescence of a horny but stunted queer teenager writing a gay erotic story, and his erotic story- a sex encounter at a public swimming pool.
