Adapted from the novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton, the film stars Robert Pattinson as an “expendable” – a disposable crew member on a space mission, selected for dangerous tasks because he can be renewed if his body dies, with his memories largely intact. With one regeneration, though, things go very wrong
Mickey 17 was written and directed by Bong Joon Ho – who previously shattered blockbuster stereotypes with his Oscar winning film Parasite. It features lead roles for Robert Pattinson (The Batman, Tenet), Naomi Ackie (Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker), Oscar-nominated Steven Yeun (Minari, Beef), Toni Collette (The Sixth Sense, Hereditary) and Mark Ruffalo (Poor Things, Avengers).
Mickey 17 had the worldwide premiere at the Berlinale 2025.
We are very excited to have as a special guest for this screening musician and writer Aafke Romeijn. She has made several electro-pop albums, and writes as a journalist for publications such as Vrij Nederland. She is known as the author of the science fiction novels Concept M and 7B as well as the poetry collection Leegstand.
Unlike Bong Joon Ho she has a completely different cultural backgrounds. Yet both artists use their work to take a critical look at society. Sharp and confrontational, they ask very direct questions about the role of technology, politics and human relationships in the contemporary world.
Bong Joon Ho provides a sharp critique of social inequality with his films, as in Parasite and Snowpiercer. Aafke Romeijn takes a similar approach in her literary work. In her novels, essays and music, she explores themes of power, social norms, gender and how individuals relate to society. Both confront audiences with the absurdity of certain social norms and expectations in our current society.
Don’t miss this special screening!
