During Playgrounds International Film Festival we let the craft of filmmaking take center stage and shine into the spotlight! However we are not just interested in finished works but also in landing a hand to upcoming projects!
We’ve received a dazzling number of projects submissions. And we so wish that one day we would get to see each and every one of them on the big screen. For now though, we will only take five projects further and let them take the stage. Out of them, one will receive an encouraging prize of € 2500- to take the first step into its development.
But who will carry out this difficult task of selecting the Best Animated Pitch? Meet our judges: Tatev Martirosyan, Joost van den Bosch and Loek Vugs.
Tatev Martirosyan is an animation line producer and production coordinator with an animation background. Graduated from Willem de Kooning Academy in 2022, she refined her filmmaking vision and contributed to various multidisciplinary projects, including installations, short animations and studio films. Currently she is a fellow at New Producers Academy and is working with Dutch production companies as an animation production coordinator. She is focused on the production of 2D (both digital and various analogue techniques) and stop-motion films, as well as exploring live-action. She strives to be part of projects that are visually interesting, as well as create space for dialogue and reflection.
Joost van den Bosch is co-owner of the Ka-Ching Cartoons Animation Studio. Together with Erik Verkerk, they serve as directors, creators and producers. They have been collaborating since art academy and even worked together for one year in Ireland at Cartoon Saloon before they returned to the Netherlands in 2007 to start their own company. At first specialising in commercials, shorts and series, they swiftly migrated to making series for Dutch television, the theme park Efteling, creating their own international series the 3D-Machine for Nintendo and even created George and Paul a stop-motion TV-series that is being broadcasted internationally right now. The studio also moved to longer formats working on several features as service studio, or as complete creative studio including direction.
Loek Vugs is an illustrator and animator from the Netherlands. His work is minimal and playful in style and he makes a lot of experimental work in the form of animated loops. Loek Vugs graduated in 2017 from the Master of Animation which was closely followed by participation in the NEXT talent program. Since then he has worked as an artist, freelancer and teacher.
