After repeatedly failing CAPTCHA tests, music producer Lara begins questioning her own humanity in this darkly comedic sci‑fi short. Lara embarks on a quest to prove her humanness, confronting the unsettling possibility that she might be a robot—or even a commodity. The short film delves into the complexities of human identity, technology, and AI, exploring the apprehensions about these blurred boundaries. Its narrative touches upon themes of labelling, embracing uniqueness, and advocating for equality and feminism.
Premiering at the Netherlands Film Festival in September 2023, it quickly garnered acclaim—winning awards at Sitges, Leuven, and Flickerfest—and earned a nomination for Best Live Action Short Film at the 97th Academy Awards.
The film was directed and written by Victoria Warmerdam. She graduated from the Art School in
Utrecht. Victoria earned the Burny Bos Talent Award at the Cinekid Festival for her Sci-Fi feature concept, SpaceKees. Her previous films Short Calf Muscle and Snorrie have been showcased at over 150 film festivals worldwide.
