Next Real Talks: CREATING IMPACT

In this talk, we’ll explore what it means to create work that truly makes a difference.

You’re making a documentary, an installation, a VR piece. There’s a story behind it, a message. But who does that message actually reach? And how can you ensure it reaches those where it can actually create change?

As a creator, sooner or later you’ll be faced with a choice: do you want primarily to move people, or also to inspire action? Should your work entertain, or also bring about change – and are you, as a creator, actually responsible for that? Or is it enough for a work of art to simply exist…

During these Next Real Talks, we’ll have an honest discussion about these questions – without any ready-made answers, but with room for doubt, experience and curiosity. We will welcome impact producer  Niekie Khaled – Kleintjes, documentary maker  Ton van Zantvoort, emerging animation producer Baran Sedighain, and fiction filmmaker  Angelo Raaijmakers. He will also be the moderator for the evening.

🌟 Niekie Khaled is a film professional who makes intimate, personal documentaries. Her drive to tell stories that not only move people but also bring about change runs like a common thread through her work.

She was executive producer of Mijn Vader de Hasjkoning, producer of Becky Bulldozer and, most recently, of the Filmfonds Wildcard documentary Zwieber by Eline van der Kaa.

Aside of her work as a filmmaker, Niekie is an advisor at Kunstloc Brabant, where she supports artists in their artistic and professional development. She was also part of the first cohort of Impact Lab, where she developed an impact strategy for an animated film by Floor Adams.

🌟 Ton van Zantvoort is an award-winning Dutch documentary filmmaker, producer and cameraman. His films, including Grito de Piedra, A Blooming Business, Schapenheld and A World to Shape, have been screened at more than 200 leading international festivals and have won over fifty awards. Van Zantvoort is known for his long-term commitment and observational style, through which he translates major social themes into intimate, multi-layered portraits.

His latest documentary, Klantreis, follows newcomers through their integration process in Breda. With humour, sincerity and a keen eye, the film shows how human, well-meaning intentions clash with bureaucracy and strict rules. The film had its world premiere at the Movies that Matter Festival, was screened nationwide in more than 70 cinemas and was awarded the Kristallen Film in May 2026 for reaching 10,000 admissions. The film will continue its tour even after its cinema release.

🌟 Baran Sedighain is an emerging producer and animation filmmaker with a deep passion for storytelling, originally from Iran. As a fellow of the New Producer Academy, she is committed to helping artists bring their visions to life.

Recently she has produced the short animated film Mind Your Step by Alina Milkina and is working as an animation line producer on several other projects. As a fresh starting animation producer, developing impact campaigns for in every project is key, even when niche or small.

🌟Angelo Raaijmakers is an emerging writer & director of genre-crossover films. His short latest short film A Perfect Night, was developed within our Next Talent program and was presented in Cannes during the Talents to Cannes program by CineSud.

With this film he started up a strong impact campaign within the theme of the film, shining a light on male victims of domestic violence. The film tells the personal story of a man who becomes the victim of emotional and physical abuse in an intimate relationship. It explores the complexity of abusive relationships, showing how boundaries gradually shift and both partners become trapped in a destructive cycle. The film aims to raise awareness that men can also be victims of domestic abuse, challenge the stigma and shame surrounding male victimhood, and encourage viewers to reflect on their own relationships and personal boundaries. Through an accompanying impact campaign, the filmmaker seeked to spark public conversation, increase recognition of male victims, and promote greater awareness of domestic violence.

Due to the very personal character of the story the film, but also his own story made it to kro/ncrv’s tv series Taboes
