Next Real Talks: COMEDY IN FILM

How can you craft humor that resonates, on a tight budget? What themes and perspectives shape comedic storytelling? How do you translate timing, tone, and absurdity from script to screen? This session examines what it takes to work within the genre, the challenges of making people laugh, and why comedy remains such a vital reflection of contemporary culture.

We will welcome actress and host Lonne Gosling, actor Joep Vermolen, and filmmaker Jochem de Vet. The audience is most welcome to interact and ask questions.

Lonne Gosling (Helmond, 1985) is an actor, presenter and theatre maker.
Since graduating from the Academy of Theatre, she has performed for companies including Theater Oortwolk, Cie Perelman, Afslag Eindhoven and De Kwekerij.

Lonne also makes films and productions with Twan van Bragt. Drawing on their shared fascination with the anti-hero and human inadequacy, they create work that is uncomfortable, dry and comforting. They operate at the intersection of theatre and film. They previously created the one-woman show Misschien moet ik zelf huilen, the web series Life of Gemma, a tragicomic series about a socially awkward vocational MBO teacher. They are currently working on Morgen Weer Een Dag.

Joep Vermolen is the co-creator and lead actor of the awkward Netflix comedy series Toon and, together with friends, created the web series 1000% Succesvol Succes in collaboration with De Speld. He currently creates sketches about awkward dates on the Instagram channel Nou Was Leuk. He is performing his first cabaret show Nou Was Leuk / So This Was Nice in Dutch and English.

Jochem de Vet is a versatile filmmaker, spanning writing, directing, editing, animation, and acting. He has a deep understanding of the importance of timing in the layered process of comedy filmmaking.

Jochem has a special knack for creating short, offbeat content that exaggerates everyday situations, highlighting the inherent pettiness and awkwardness of our existence. Currently Jochem is working on commercial projects while developing new comedy fiction shorts.
