
This class is designed to offer a hands-on experience that encourages you to explore a wide-range of materials, dares you to dive into original techniques and prompts you to discover new creative ways outside of your comfort zone.
WHAT TO EXPECT | DAY 1
On the first day, you will purely focus on exploration and intuition. Iris will showcase how she lets go of expectations and how she explores different types of materials and techniques within her practice until she finds those that resonate most to the idea she aims to express.
- Short introduction to Iris her process and her work with a presentation of her sketchbook and a short demo;
- You’ll introduce yourself, bring your sketchbooks and share your sketches with other attendees;
- Iris will share tools for you to help you make use of spontaneity and intuition within your process;
- Experiment with various traditional media, materials and tools. Explore the possibilities of ordinary items such as spatulas, tooth brushes, foil, etc. Everyday objects that might surprise you.
WHAT TO EXPECT | DAY 2
On the second day, you will put everything in practice from what you’ve learned on the first day in an assignment or work situation.
- Short presentation on how Iris transforms inspiration into actual work;
- You will take a walk together through the neighborhood in order to find an object or scene you want to capture through your work
- You will apply the freshly learned techniques into your process, working towards the desired result while being guided by Iris and her personalized feedback.

ABOUT IRIS COMPIET
Iris Compiet is a traditional artist and Illustrator from the Netherlands. She is the illustrator of The Dark Crystal Bestiary, winner of the 2020 Jack Gaughan Award for Best Emerging Artist, and a 2020 nominee for the Chesley Award for Best Gaming Related Illustration.
She is the illustrator of The Star Wars Bestiary vol1, The Labyrinth Bestiary, and winner of the 2021 Chesley Award for Best Interior Art for The Dark Crystal.
Iris’s work has appeared in numerous publications including Spectrum, Infected by Art, ImagineFX, and 3D Total. Some of her other clients include Wizards of the Coast and Netflix, and her art has appeared in publications and gallery shows around the world. In her work Faeries of the Faultlines, Iris guides readers through a world of fantastical creatures from beyond the veil.
