FRANK KOLKMAN

session #7 | 2018

We welcome experimental designer Frank Kolkman to Session #7.

Frank Kolkman‘s latest projects include: an Out-of-body experience simulator, a Domestic drug screening kit, a DIY Surgical Robot  and proposals for a Humane Caviar Extraction Super Yacht & a Synthetic Rhino Horn Growing Device. Trying to combine his curiosity towards the inner workings of things with analytical thinking and intuitive making, he aims to challenge our understanding of current and near-future technologies and their socio-political implications.
Kolkman holds a Bachelors degree in Product Design from ArtEZ Institute of the Arts in Arnhem (NL), and a Masters degree in Design Interactions from the Royal College of Art in London (UK).

In 2017 Kolkman was award by the Dutch Design Awards with the Young Design Award. The jury thinks he has incredible strong conceptual design skills and he is very provocative. With a sense of humour he connects science and design and sometimes provides a solution and sometimes he questions his audience or reveals a painful dilemma.
