Our editor Iris van den Akker introduces us to a very special and inspirational artist: the wonderful animator Marlies van der Wel.
Iris: “Marlies is known for her very well designed animations. Dutch animation fans might know her from her films ‘Sabaku’ and ‘Jonas and the sea’, in which she uses lots of footage together to make a ‘digital cut-out’ animation look. And it works.
Van der Wel is a jack of all trades; she is an illustrator, graphic designer, animator and art director who uses beautiful, whimsical imagery to tell emotional and delightful stories for everyone. I love her work, it’s very 3-dimensional, without actually using 3D.”
