MARLEINE VAN DER WERF GRANTEE SUNDANCE

Former Next talent & board member of Playgrounds is supported for her interdisciplinary project 'The Living Dead'

Visual artist, former Next talent and Playgrounds board member Marleine van der Werf is one of the interdisciplinary grantees that are supported by Sundance Institute’s new Interdisciplinary Program.

Her multidisciplinary project ‘The Living Dead’ is supported by the prestigious Sundance. Marleine started the research for this project during the Next Talent Program and Next has supported ‘The Living Dead’ with a production budget for the pre-production.

‘The Living Dead’ previously won the STRP Act Award and the project was further developed with a contribution from Immerse Interact (Stimuleringsfonds/Filmfonds) & Stichting Niemeijer Fonds & Simone van den Broek from Basalt Film.

The multidisciplinary project ‘The Living Dead‘ is an intimate journey in which the fragile relationship with our biological body is questioned. The story is told from the perspective of a patient who suffers from the rare Cotard Syndrome and has lost connection with her body. To experience this Marleine develops various presentation forms, including a short film and a multi-sensory installation. She uses an immersive sound experience, a floating tank, scent, wearables, touch, and virtual reality to make the experience tangible. In this journey we see a glimpse of how their brains may be the key to unlock the mysteries of human consciousness.
