NEXT TALK x GENRE HUB: THE RISE OF BODY HORROR

What do films like The Fly, Eraserhead and The Substance all have in common? They are badass body horror films! Over the years the body horror genre has grown more popular and these days we see a new rise of shocking horror niche. Let’s take a deep dive into body horror and what it means for the (horror) film and animation scene.

What exactly is body horror? Why did it become such a popular horror niche? And how can you make the perfect body horror film? Three wonderful guests will join us on this body horror quest and will give us a glimpse of their horror-infused brains:

Jan Doense is the producer of Film Events and founder of Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival (now Imagine Film festival). Jan appropriately received the nickname ‘Mr. Horror’ thanks to his profound love for horror films and would love to create a documentary on Dutch horror films one day.

Nina Noël Raaijmakers is a screenwriter and director exclusively focused on body horror films. Her first short ‘My Mother the Atomic Bomb’ was selected for the student competitions of Nederlands Film festival. She has recently finished her new body horror short ‘FEMME’.

Eva Bonnevits is an animator and part of this year’s Next Talent Program. Her films are character-driven and over-exaggerated. Her short ‘Next, Please’ explores the interesting cross-over between horror and animation.

Playgrounds Next and Genre Hub (Make Way Film) join hands for this inspiring talk for film makers, animators and horror enthusiasts. Don’t hesitate to stay for a drink afterwards but be warned: it will be a gruesome night (in the best way possible)!
