Studio Nergens (translated: Studio Nowhere) is an Amsterdam based studio that creates transdisciplinary performances at the intersection of music theater, visual art, and immersive media.
Over the past few years, the studio has garnered significant national and international attention with virtual reality operas, where visitors, wearing VR headsets, explore immersive musical scenes by walking.
For their experience Songs for a Passerby they received the Venice Immersive Grand Prize for the best immersive experience at the Venice Biennale in 2023.
Songs for A Passerby is a VR opera about our unsteady relationship with impermanent reality. How do we relate to a world of passing things? Are we a part of it? Or are we just looking at it? Are we a body, or do we have a body? Does this ambivalence perhaps lie at the root of all melancholy?
In this Next Talk art director and tech dramaturg Aron Fels will talk about this beautiful experience.
