DDW 2022: Design & Documentary

During the Dutch Design Week we present Design & Documentary: an evening on the similarities and overlaps between research based design and documentary with a panel and film screenings. Together with our panel we discuss the processes behind design and documentary, where research can become a product, a book or a film.

How do you perform research for a documentary and how does this correspond with design research? How can these creative processes strengthen each other? These questions are central to the conversation with leading designers and documentary filmmakers.

Our panel: designers Christien Meindertsma, Nienke Hoogvliet and documentary filmmakers Ton van Zantvoort,
Josefien van Kooten and Roel van Tour.

The program is moderated by Yassin Karmoudi.

After the conversation you can choose a film:

Screening 1: ‘A World to Shape’, a documentary about two designers, Nienke Hoogvliet and Dave Hakkens who use their design to tackle the world’s problems. Directed by: Ton van Zantvoort

Screening 2: ‘A Travellers Guide’, a 63-minutes visual documentary that shows, in fragmented observations, the gaze of a filmmaker who travels the world. A reflection on tourism, loneliness, inequality and our relationship with animals and our planet. Directed by: Ton van Zantvoort & Josefien van Kooten

This program is a collaboration between Playgrounds, Design to Market, Natlab and BROET.
