Vanessa Postma is an animator and illustrator working across 2D and 3D. She graduated with a Master’s degree in Animation in 2023.
Her work revolves around storytelling and character-driven narratives, often shaped by influences from hip-hop culture, cartoons, and bold, colourful visuals. Occasionally, she draws from her Surinamese background as a source of inspiration.
She enjoys exploring both applied and autonomous work, with a growing interest in developing her own projects such as short animations and series while navigating the space between commissioned and independent practice.

Her work is centred around character-driven storytelling, where she create characters that carry their own worlds, emotions, and visual identity. She enjoys developing projects from concept to final outcome, building everything from characters to environments and the narratives they exist in.
She works across both 2D and 3D, and is especially interested in combining the two. 3D is something she really enjoys exploring, while 2D remains at the core of her practice. She likes finding ways for them to overlap and communicate with each other.
Themes of identity, culture, and diversity are recurring throughout her work, as she aims to create stories and visuals that people can connect to and see themselves reflected in.
She really enjoys creating eye-catching visuals that are still grounded in strong, meaningful storytelling. She sees each project as a chance to grow, learning something new every time and continuing to develop her skills as a maker.
Show-casing a solid portfolio but also consistency and innovation in the way she infuses her personal background into her projects, Vanessa Postma is a very exciting addition to our Next Talent Program, the 2026-2027 generation.
