FERRY GOUW

playgrounds 2015 | ARTIST TALK

Illustrator, musician and graphic designer Ferry Gouw is the art director of Major Lazer, designing all aspects of their visual output – from the character designs, record sleeves and posters, to music and lyric videos.

He is also the art director of Major Lazer’s cartoon TV show, showing on Fxx. At the age of 15, Ferry Gouw moved from Indonesia to London, where he still lives and works. He studied Art and Design at Central Saint Martins before completing his Master’s degree in Filmmaking at Mike Leigh’s London Film School. His inspiration comes from American cartoon classics (Silverhawks, Centurions, Dino Riders), Japanese anime(Saint Seiya, Mazinger Z, Doraemon) and Jamaican record covers. The mixture of all these influences is unmistakable in his work for Major Lazer.
