
Originally from Tajikistan, Jama Jurabaev is a professional concept artist, illustrator and a matte painter currently working for movie and game industry in London, UK. Among the notable projects he contributed to are Starwars Series: Mandalorian, Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ready Player One, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, as well as BBC`s Prehistoric Planet among many others.
Throughout the years Jama has attended several Playgrounds events both online and offline. Always adding new twists and insights, his talks are always a massive hit with our audience, which is why we just had to bring him back in 2024 in Eindhoven!






Although he studied Aerospace Engineering, in his mid-twenties he decided it was not for him thus switching over to concept art. In 2012 he started working at MPC in London, as a matte painter in the commercial department. There he also got his first taste of the Hollywood experience working on movies like Guardians of the Galaxy and X-Men: Days of Future Past.
From MPC he moved to Framestore, where he got even more involved in film production working as a lead concept artist for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Beauty and the Beast, Ready Player One and Pan among others.
Jama has also collaborated with Industrial Light and Magic and Lucas Film. Most recently, he has been working on unannounced Starwars Projects.
In his talk at The Art Department 2024 Jama will be showing highlights from his latest professional project and giving some insights into his workflow. We are simply delighted to welcome him back on our stage!
