Iris Compiet is a traditional artist and illustrator from the Netherlands. For Iris storytelling is an essential part of het artwork, and she strives to lure in the spectator, to make them feel a connection to the work and open a gateway to their imagination to ignite it even further. Iris draws inspiration from European folklore, mythology, fairytales, ghost stories and anything from tombstones, Victorian photography to popular movies and music.
Iris is also the illustrator of The Star Wars Bestiary vol1, The Dark Crystal Bestiary, Faeries of the Faultlines. Her work has appeared in numerous gallery shows around the world, publications and won many prizes. In her work Iris guides viewers through a world of fantastical creatures from beyond the veil.
Labyrinth – Jim Henson will also be screened at PIFF and is celebrating it’s 40th anniversary this year.
