Pit Lempens is an illustrator and animator who strives to capture the weirdness, ugliness and beauty of life into neat little packages. Buildings like gas stations, motels, aquariums and restaurants are his biggest inspiration, because they are filled with detail. With a touch of humor and a touch of unease, he will make you laugh at the bizarre and investigate the abnormal.
To start off, Pit will run through some of his favorite works and explain the fascinations and obsessions that led to their creation. Later he will be discussing his graduation film Aquarium Day, which is about the absurdity, stupidity and dullness of aquariums. He will share the concept art, loose gags, pet peeves and animation tests that eventually build up to a finished scene. To end, he will discuss an exciting and slightly gross new game project.
Pit Lempens is curated by the Playgrounds Next Talent Program. The Next stage invites up-and-coming artists to provide insight into their creative process, as well as sharing the artistic forces which drive them.
