OKKE VAN BREEMEN

XR maker

Okke van Breemen is an animation and video artist with a deep fascination for real-time systems—environments where imagery is generated live and can be manipulated and performed much like a musical instrument.

In 2020 he graduated with a bachlor degree in Visual Storytelling from St.Joost School of Art & Design. Over the past four years Okke focussed of the application of his technical expertise in collaboration with various theatre ensembles and orchestras.

Okke builds his own custom software and hardware to create dynamic visuals and interactive systems. His practice revolves around an ongoing exploration of translation across media and disciplines, aiming to create moments of complete synchronization—where diverse elements align in perfect harmony. To achieve this, he often collaborates with various disciplines in theater and other performing arts.

In his artistic practice, he explores the evolving relationship between humans and the natural world. He begins from the belief that nature is not something “out there,” but our original and most fundamental reality—one that is increasingly experienced unconsciously in our tech-driven lives.

He is interested in how immersive technologies, often seen as tools of escapism, might paradoxically help us reconnect with nature, by making visible and tangible those aspects of the natural world that usually remain outside of our perception or are all too often overlooked.

Okke has proudly been selected to take part in the Next XR Talent Program of 2025. We can’t wait to find out more about his journey!
