Maria Cristhin Kuiper is a Dutch–Peruvian documentary filmmaker.
With a Master’s degree in Journalism from The University of Hong Kong, Maria Cristhin is an experienced video journalist.

Maria Cristhin grew up in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, but also has a strong connection to her second home, Cusco, Peru. Before she fully dedicated herself to documentary filmmaking, she worked as a journalist in Hong Kong for six years, first producing TV documentaries for a local station and then as a reporter/editor for AFP News Agency. Her work, which focuses on social and political issues, has appeared in media around the world.
The journalism experience taught her a lot about storytelling, but her desire to go deeper and explore artistic forms of storytelling always remained present. That’s why she decided to leave Hong Kong and move back to the Netherlands, where there are more opportunities in the documentary industry. She is now directing her first feature-length documentary Mule.
Maria Cristhin has proudly been selected to take part in the Next Talent Program of 2025. We can’t wait to find out more about her journey!
