Ira Hoefsmid is a filmmaker driven by curiosity, emotion, and a deep love for storytelling.
In 2019, Ira graduated from St. Joost School of Art and Design with a focus on documentary filmmaking.

At 13, Ira picked up her first camcorder—and never really put it down. Her camera is her way of navigating the world, capturing the raw, intimate, and colorful complexities of humanity.
Her graduation film, Twenty-Seven, follows a friend group with a suicide pact. The film was created through an immersive, hands-on approach—she spent 3.5 years fully immersed in their world, and through that process, she discovered her way of filmmaking.
Documentaries continue to challenge and surprise Ira, both as a maker and as a viewer, offering her an endless exploration of truth and perspective.
Ira’s primary goal is to create films that matter—raw, emotionally charged documentaries that capture real-life stories with authenticity and depth. Beyond filmmaking, she works as a qualified film teacher and educational developer, sharing her passion with the next generation. She also supports filmmakers looking to make a social impact through film education, helping them refine their craft and amplify their voices. Ira believes in the power of storytelling to inspire change, foster understanding, and create meaningful connections.
Ira has proudly been selected to take part in the Next Talent Program of 2025. We can’t wait to find out more about her journey!
